UDENE at DISC 2024

Posted on 01/17/2025

On 6 December 2024, InoSens – UDENE consortium partner – participated in DISC2024, also known as the International Student Conference, at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Initiated in 2021, DISC is a yearly conference aimed at empowering students and young researchers by providing a platform dedicated to knowledge and ideas exchange. This year, the event focused on six core topics: Environmental protection and sustainable development, Occupational safety and health, Strategic human resource and business management, Sustainable project management, Civil engineering, and Education 3.0.

Both by its location and audience, DISC2024 was a perfect opportunity to introduce the UDENE project and its objectives, as well as to start the information campaign on the Open Calls. Representing UDENE, Maja Sremački from InoSens provided an in-depth presentation of the Serbian use-case (read more here), picking the brain of local researchers and students on the sustainable development of their city, as well as of the Tunisian and Turkish use-cases.

Remarkably, the audience included representatives of the City Council for Ecology, Energy Efficiency, and Environmental Protection and from the Environmental Protection Department of the City Administration of Novi Sad, consitent with UDENE’s objective of promoting Copernicus-enabled solutions for cities in International Partner Countries (IPCs) and facilitating decision-making at the city level.

UDENE PROJECT

The UDENE Project aims to use large amounts of Earth Observation (EO) data from Copernicus satellites and local sources to support evidence-based decision making for urban development, especially in international partner countries. To support the UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 of making cities safe, resilient, and sustainable, the project will essentially create a virtual laboratory for urban planners and visionaries to test their development ideas.
